Smash, otherwise known as Instant Mash Potato, is a wonderful resource to use. It can be played with as a dry texture or add water to create a wet substance. As Smash is a food product, it is edible and therefore suitable for baby Tuff Spot play. Our Smash Instant Potato Tuff Spot was easy to set up too.

Resources needed for Smash Instant Mash Potato Tuff Spot:
* A packet of Smash – a cheaper supermarket alternative works just as well
* Tuff Spot – we used our black Tuff Spot builders tray
* Mixing bowls
* Recycled plastic containers, colander, scoops, wooden spoons, funnel
* Warm water
Simply empty a 176g packet of Smash into a mixing bowl and place a variety of containers in the Tuff Spot. That is all that is needed to set up the Smash Tuff Spot. I then let Adam explore the contents.
At first he used the wooden spoon to experiment with the Smash, transferring the Smash from one container to another.
He placed the Smash in the funnel and then into different containers. He didn’t mind at all when it covered his welly boot. He seemed to prefer using the small scoops and enjoyed covering his legs in dry Smash.
After a while I placed a bowl of warm water in the Tuff Spot. We tried to demonstrate how Adam could use the little scoops to transfer the water into the Smash. He had other plans though and poured the little scoops of water over himself.
We used the water to mix with the Smash which formed a consistency like playdough. It was malleable and we could create Smash dough-balls. Adam didn’t mind holding the Smash balls but wasn’t impressed when his Dad squashed the Smash dough into his fingers.
Adam was 20 months old
